Dragon Boat Challenge, Sunday 18th May 2008.
Captain's Check List.
Countdown to the day –
-
Make sure that crew
members and supporters are actively obtaining sponsors in order to achieve and
beat their personal target of at least £50 in sponsorship and boat target of
£1,000.
-
Issue more sponsorship
forms if necessary.
-
Remind crew and supporters
to invite friends and family to come along. As well as the racing there will
be sideshows and entertainment for the children
On the
day –
-
The venue is at Himley
Park, just off the A449 Wolverhampton/Stourbridge Road (turn onto the B4176,
signposted Dudley).
-
Registration will be from
9.30am onwards and all teams must register at the Rotary Marquee as
soon as they arrive on the site. As captain you will be required to sign a
Crew Declaration on behalf of all your squad.
-
The text of this
declaration is attached for your information.
-
Each team will be
allocated a plot in the 'Team Village' where they can set up their
headquarters, with your own awning, table and chairs. A Bar-B-Q may also be
used, but must be gas and you
-
must have a dry
powder or CO2 fire extinguisher. Dudley MBC are insisting on this and
will inspect during the day. In order to maintain access for emergency
vehicles, only ONE VEHICLE will be allowed
-
on the team plot to carry
equipment, others must use the Car Park.
-
Having set up camp on your
plot and when all the crew for the first round is present, the captain must
again report to the Rotary Marquee to confirm that the crew is ready for
safety and paddle training.
-
The first round of heats
will start at approximately 10.30am, with second and third rounds at
approximately 12.30 and 2.00pm. Please listen carefully
to the Public Address announcements and report promptly
-
to the loading area
when your team is called.
On the water –
-
The entire squad
will be given
instruction on boat handling and safety procedures prior to the first heat. It
is your responsibility to ensure that all crew members attend this
briefing, not just those who will paddle in the first heat.
-
It is essential that team
members do not go out onto the water until they have had safety training. If
any crew members do not arrive until after this training, it is your
responsibility to ensure that they are
-
fully instructed on safety
procedures.
-
All crew members must wear
life jackets
which are provided, corporate tee-shirts or tabbards may be worn under or over
the life jackets.
·
You must elect
one member of the crew to act as drummer, the helmsman is a member of the
organising 'Dragon Boat Events Ltd' and his instructions must be followed at all
times.
·
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT NONE OF YOUR
TEAM DO ANYTHING ON THE WATER WHICH MAY ENDANGER THEIR COLLEAGUES OR THE CREWS
OF OTHER BOATS.
·
For
your peace of mind - Public Liability Insurance cover is in place, for all those
attending, by means of separate policies effected by Rotary International and by
the company which provides the boats.
Before leaving the site
please ensure that all rubbish generated by your team is taken away with you, or
placed in the dustbins provided.
